On November 15-17 2009 the International Bar Association (IBA) leadership made an official visit to Ukraine. ENGARDE co-hosted the visit of the IBA delegation to Ukraine and actively participated in the events organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association in this regard.

The IBA delegation included Fernando Pelaez-Pier, the IBA President and partner of Hoet Pelaez Castillo & Duque (Venezuela); Dr Hendrik Haag, the Head of the Legal Practice Division and partner of Hengeler Mueller (Germany); Tomasz Wardynski, Council Member of the Public and Professional Interest Division, founder and partner of Wardynski & Partners, (Poland); and Vasiliy Rudomino, Co-Chief of the European Forum and senior partner of ALRUD law firm (Russia).

During their visit to Kyiv the IBA guests held a meeting with the leadership of Ukrainian professional organizations for lawyers – Association of Advocates of Ukraine, Ukrainian Bar Association, Union of Lawyers of Ukraine and Union of Advocates of Ukraine, as well as with partners of the leading Ukrainian law firms. The IBA delegates also visited the Supreme Court of Ukraine, held an official meetings with the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Mykola Onyschyuk and the Head of Legal Policy Committee at the Parliament of Ukraine Sergiy Myschenko.

While multiple meetings the IBA representatives expressed their readiness to establish fruitful and active cooperation with their Ukrainian colleagues on accomplishing the bar reform and in promoting the rule of law in Ukraine through a range of joint initiatives. They also stated their willingness to cooperate with public and governmental organizations in Ukraine and participate in developing key legislative drafts.
